The itinerary

Day 1

Arrive at London Heathrow. Depart for central London to visit the British Library, where the library's exhibits will feature Austen memorabilia and manuscripts. Continue to the National Portrait Gallery to see Cassandra's portrait of Jane Austen, and others prominent in her era. Take a short walking tour in Covent Garden to see the site of Henry Austen's office. Travel to Kent for a get-acquainted welcome dinner.

Day 6

Stroll through Winchester on a guided tour. Participate in a special ceremony for our tour group in Winchester Cathedral, with laying of flowers on Jane Austen's grave. 

The rest of the day at leisure in Winchester.

Day 2

Depart for Goodnestone, visit the house, gardens and church of the family into which Jane Austen's brother Edward married. Become acquainted with our hostess—a descendant of that family, while having lunch in the converted stables. Travel to Godmersham to see the house and grounds that belonged to Jane Austen's brother Edward: visit the church and participate in a demonstration of bell-ringing.

Day 7

Transfer to airport for the return flight home.

Day 3

Travel via Horsmonden and see the church and home of Jane Austen's paternal grandparents. Continue to Sevenoaks, with more links with her grandparents and her father. Visit Knole Park said to be the largest private house in England. Continue to cathedral city of Winchester and check in to your hotel.

Day 4

Visit Jane Austen's home village of Steventon, meet Steventon villagers at the little church where her father and brother were Rectors. Tour The Vyne, home of the Chute family who were a prominent family in the area. Stroll through the garden of Ashe House. Enjoy tea with the present-day owners of Ibthorpe House, home of the Lloyd family.

Day 5

Today enjoy a visit to Chawton, the former home of Jane Austen. Tour the Jane Austen House Museum with its particularly fine bookstore. While there, small groups will have a special focus on the original letters of Jane Austen. Visit Chawton Great House for a session in the Chawton House Library and a guided tour of the house itself. Return to Winchester by way of the pretty little town of New Alresford. Free evening in Winchester.
